How big does hail need to be to damage a roof?+
1-inch hail (quarter-sized) can damage asphalt shingles. 1.25-inch and up almost always causes damage worth documenting.
What does hail damage look like on shingles?+
Round dark spots where granules have been knocked off, exposing the asphalt mat underneath. From the ground you generally cannot see it — granule accumulation in your gutters is the tell.
Can hail damage be repaired instead of replaced?+
It depends on how widespread the bruising is. Damage concentrated on one or two exposed slopes is repairable; hail that has struck every elevation hard enough to fracture mats generally is not.
How long do I have to file a hail damage claim?+
Most Ohio carriers require claims within 12 months of the storm. The earlier you file, the cleaner the claim.
